What is a focus group?

A focus group is a form of market research where a group of people answer questions and discuss a product or idea. Focus groups are conducted on behalf of companies to find out what consumers think about their product, brand, competition, or ideas.

Focus groups are typically conducted in a group setting of 8-12 people, in a high-density city with a diverse group of population and demographics. There are also mini focus groups, one-on-one sessions, and shop-a-long studies. Recently, online focus groups have become very popular for companies to run.

Consumers are compensated for their opinions with cash, gift cards, or free product.

How will I get paid?

Most of the time you will be paid in the form of cash or check at the end of the focus group. Other times, you may be compensated with a gift certificate, or free product.

Are the focus groups legitimate and safe?

Yes. We work directly with recruiters from many of the top national and local market research companies who conduct these focus groups. In other words, many of the opportunities on our website come direct from reliable and trusted sources.

Other focus groups not received directly from recruiters are highly scrutinized. Although we strive to only post the most legitimate focus group opportunities, we always advise our users to use their best judgment when they give out any personal information. Only share information you are comfortable giving.

Why am I never picked for a focus group?

It could be a number of reasons. Perhaps the study is already full, or you didn’t meet all of the criteria they were looking for.

When applying, take your time filling out the survey and give well thought-out answers. Companies are looking for people who are not shy about sharing their thoughts and people who can articulate them.

Don’t be discouraged! You won’t be accepted for every focus group. Keep trying and you should get an opportunity!
